1820's barn in Pa

Interior detail of 1820's barn in Northampton Pa (now used as an artists studio). The turned ladder rungs connect into the main support posts for the roof.

All connections are by use of hickory wood pins, the pins would have been dried in a kiln, then hammered into the wood beams and posts. The hickory would draw moisture from the wood members, and swell, resulting in a tighter connection.
180 years later, looks better than new. The roof boards have been replaced, but the primary structural frame is all original.
